It is fair to say that human history has evolved in parallel with materials development as you can see from the ages of stone, bronze, and iron. Particularly, after the inception of the polymer concept, first introduced by Staudinger in 1920, we have witnessed the remarkable progress in understanding of polymeric materials for a variety of applications and polymer industries have flourished for the whole century. In this presentation, I will introduce my personal journey on polymer research in the Polymer Golden Era. More recently, due to the massive production of plastics from pertrochemical industries, we are now faced with environmental challenges such as plastic wastes and reduction in carbon footprint. Sulfur polymers could serve one of such alternatives due to reconfigurable features orignating from low bond dissociation energy and cheap raw materials derived from nature. With sufur-based polymers, new strategy will be introduced to go beyond the circular economy to create new values from industrial wastes.
