The outstanding properties of boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) have recently sparked significant scientific interest. However, their practical utility faces challenges due to the complexities of achieving adequate purity through large-scale synthesis. Despite exploring various purification methods, a universally scalable solution remains absent.
This study introduces a scalable purification technique for BNNTs by modifying the aqueous polymer two-phase extraction process. Thorough mapping enables efficient separation of highly pure BNNTs, with an impurity removal efficiency exceeding 98%. Successful upscaling confirms effective diameter-based sorting. The study also demonstrates creating a liquid crystal with purified BNNTs, suggesting significant contributions to realizing macroscopic BNNT properties in the future.
