Colloidal dispersion in non-polar solvents is crucial in paints, displays, and petroleum. This study spotlights electrophoretic displays (EPD), with low power consumption due to the low dielectric constant of non-polar solvents. EPDs enable color tuning via photonic crystal structure. Our focus is inorganic colloidal EPD inks, in non-polar solvents. Diverse materials (e.g., superparamagnetic iron oxide, silicon dioxide, titania) yield structural color. Ensuring particle dispersion mandates suitable charge control agents. Yet, a challenge is ink drying prevention because solvent evaporation wrecks crystalline colloidal arrays, erasing structural color. Encapsulation of ink by complex coacervation process can prevent solvent evaporation. In this study, encapsulation of inorganic colloidal photonic ink using various polymeric materials is investigated.
