One-dimensional(1D) fiber-based sensing structure is an ideal choice for the new generation of electronic devices due to their unique characteristics of light weight, small size, excellent flexibility, recoverable deformation, and good integration. Here, we report an extremely stretchable fibrous conductor with a novel strain-response reaction(micro-capillary reaction inside a surrounding liquid droplet), maintaining electrical conductivity even above 3,000% elongation. An optimized stretchable fiber strain sensor showed a consistent value of gauge factor, G=(∆R/R0)/ɛ of 0.50±0.05 up to 2,000% elongation, excellent robustness(more than 100,000 cycles at 300% elongation),and high reliability (less than 3 % deviation), in comparison to conventional conductive structures. We believe that the outstanding features of the self-recoverable conductors have potential benefits for wearable device applications, especially smart fabrics, electronic skin, and next-generation motion sensors.
