Despite promising photonic utility, devices based on molecules exhibiting circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) remain scarce. The paucity originates from a trade-off limitation between the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and the luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum) of a CPL-active molecule. To address this challenge, we have developed a molecular approach based on helical co-assemblies of square-planar Pt(II) complexes which enable both asymmetric exciton coupling and the magnetically allowed metal-metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MMLCT) transition. Helical assemblies with high crystallinity were grown within microchannels where their helical sense was governed primarily by chiral counter anions. The helical assemblies displayed strong chiroptical characteristics, with values of the PLQY (0.32) and the glum (0.13).
