Phenazine derivatives have been reported as an effective anticancer compound. However, phenazine derivatives are insoluble and self-assemble to a size of several tens of micrometers in an aqueous solution. Here, a hydrophilic functional group triethylene glycol monomethyl ether (3G0) was attached to the phenazine for using structurally similar drug carrier. This amphiphilic carrier made the structural size of the phenazine derivative smaller through co-assembly. The co-assembled structure showed better anticancer effect. This approach provides a supramolecular prodrug concept for the next-generation drug delivery systems.
