Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is one of the most widely used engineering plastics due to its excellent properties and relative cost-effectiveness. However, PET still requires an improvement in its low elasticity and dimensional stability. Our study aims to improve the elasticity and dimensional stability of PET through melt blending with liquid crystal polymer (LCP) with excellent mechanical properties. Injection through reaction extrusion of PET and LCP was performed, and the epoxide-based reactive additive was added to increase the compatibility of PET and LCP. Reactive extrusion of PET and LCP was used to induce transesterification between PET and LCP and to improve the compatibility of PET and LCP by reacting the epoxide groups of reactive additives with hydroxyl end groups of PET and LCP. The improvement of compatibility can be seen in the SEM images and the strength of the injection specimen increased by 7 % and toughness by 8.5 %, compared to PET.
