Photonic synapses capable of perceiving and distinguishing multispectral colors are crucial for realizing next-generation neuromorphic vision systems. To achieve this capability, we propose an approach to introduce color-discriminating synaptic functionality into two-terminal memristors, independent of the type of switching medium. This can be achieved by incorporating an interlayer with long-lasting light-enhanced dipoles into the device, which, in turn, allows for the modulation of its resistance to the light. The properties of photo-responsivity and color discrimination are demonstrated by different output levels in response to multispectral light pulse stimulation. Moreover, the photonic synapse array validates the potential for visual pre-processing by monitoring output signals from color image inputs. We believe this approach can open avenues for the realization of artificial neural networks for neuromorphic vision systems.
