Research on gas sensors using π-conjugated carbon compounds such as carbon nanotubes (CNT), polypyrrole (PPy), polyaniline (PANi), and graphite as a gas sensitive layer is being actively conducted.

In this study, a nanocomposite particles with camporsulfonic acid (CSA)-doped polyaniline emeraldine salts (PANi) in the core and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) shells, CSA-doped PANi@HPMC, was synthesized using emulsion polymerization for an acetone gas sensor. The morphological structure of the surface was analyzed using SEM and TEM, and the ESD spectrum was used to identify the constituent elements of the atoms. It was confirmed that CSA-doped PANi@HPMC has excellent thermal stability even at high temperatures of over 100 degrees with high electrical conductivity. As for the sensor characteristics, it was confirmed that the detection characteristics for acetone gas show a high response even at a small concentration.
