Fabrication of glucose sensitive smart polymer system and insulin release by glucose

Smart or intelligent polymers mimicking living systems that respond to external stimuli by adapting to changing conditions have become a subject of considerable interest to polymer researchers over the few decade years. These polymers are able to undergo reversible changes in physical or chemical states responding to external changes in environmental conditions such as temperature, pH, light, magnetic or electric field, ionic strength, and biological molecules. To maximize the application advantage of honeycomb-patterned porous polymer film, a pore-selective poly (methacrylic acid)(PMAA) modified honeycomb-patterned porous polyimide(PI) film was prepared for a pH-sensitive smart film to sense the glucose. For the sensing of glucose, glucose oxidize(GOD) which is selective enzyme with the glucose to change gluconic acid also attached to the pore together with amino-terminated PMAA to change the pH by the existing of glucose due to the change to gluconic acid which is decreasing the pH.
