Due to their unique three-dimensional cellular structure, aerogels possess a high surface area, high porosity, and very low density, which allows for a wide range of applications in mechanical, heat, and electrical fields. Especially, organic aerogels such as polyurethane (PU) aerogels are gaining attention due to their mechanical properties and high flexibility. In this study, the potential for PU aerogels to be utilized as flexible piezoresistive sensors are examined. PU aerogels have demonstrated exceptional mechanical properties and a wide range of applications, but their piezoresistive behavior is often limited by the intrinsic electrical insulating nature of conventional PU. To address this limitation, here, carbon nanotube functionalized with carboxylic acid has been incorporated into the PU matrix, form the aerogel composites. HDI isocyanurate, with its three isocyanate functional groups, enables the fabrication of low density and flexible PU aerogel sensors.
