Defect passivation through reactive post-treatment to improve efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have excellent photovoltaic properties and are emerging as promising energy conversion devices. Efforts are being made to improve the performance of perovskite solar cells by suppressing unavoidable defects on the perovskite surface and grain boundaries. Passivation is one of the most effective strategies to suppress charge recombination by these defects, in this work, passivation strategy via reactive post-treatment process (RPP) using N-(2-phenoxyethyl)guanidine nitrate salt (NPGN) employed. RPP with NPGN improved the efficiency of the PSC up to 8% by reducing the defect density present on the surface and bulk of the perovskite film and improving its charge extraction-transport capability. Our findings show that defect passivation via reactive post-processing is an effective way to improve the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells.
