Ultralight Aerogels Fabricated from Attractive Silica Nanolaces-Armored Pickering Emulsion Templates

We introduce a simple method for fabricated aerogels by attractive silica nanolace (ASNL)-armored Pickering emulsion as templates. To achieve this, we synthesized silica nanolaces grafted with hydrophilic polymer and hydrophobic polymer onto the surface of SiNLs. The performance of interfacial assembly behavior was confirmed through interfacial tension and interfacial rheology analyses. Furthermore, homogenization methods were employed to stabilize oil-in-water (O/W) or water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions, and the amount of internal oil was adjusted to accommodate up to 70 v/v%. Finally, ASNL aerogels were prepared using the emulsions as templates, and the macrostructure of the aerogels was controlled by adjusting the oil volume fraction. We successfully controlled the pore structure and surface area of the ultralight ASNL aerogels and produced them in a free form.
