Ultraviolet radiation from the sun can occur skin diseases, so it is important to protect skin from UV rays. In this study, we prepared the hollow silica nanoparticles which can adjust core size and shell thickness to make form factor that scatters the light of specific wavelengths. Furthermore, the structure of core-shell can adjust the effective refractive index. By matching the refractive index of the medium and particles to reduce multiple scattering, it appears transparent in the visible light. Hollow silica nanoparticles were obtained by synthesizing core-shell particles and removing core. Polystyrene(PS) particles were synthesized serving as a core. VTMS, a precursor of silica, forms silica shell on the surface of PS particles through a sol-gel reaction with ammonia as a catalyst. After calcining the core-shell to remove PS particles, hollow silica nanoparticles were obtained.
