Prussian blue analogue complexes as highly active heterogeneous catalysts for ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone

Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) are well-known solid compounds because of their diverse applications in both academia and industry. We have investigated a series of PBAs as heterogeneous catalysts for the synthesis of polyester polyols. The PBA catalysts exhibited good to excellent performance toward ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone with turn over frequency (calculated by mol monomer per mol catalyst per hour) up to 160 min–1, producing polycaprolactone polyols with certain hydroxyl functionality, controlled molecular weight of 500-34,000 g mol–1, and narrow molecular weight distribution of 1.08–2.31. PBAs could be easily recovered using magnet after reaction.
