High hardness Organic/Inorganic Hybrid Polymer Coating on PC/PMMA film

Glass has traditionally been the primary material used for transparent components in displays, cars, and aircraft. However, there is a growing demand to replace glass with polycarbonate/polymethylmethacrylate (PC/PMMA) sheets due to their lighter weight and improved safety in case of breakage. Moreover, PC/PMMA films offer ease of molding and manufacturing. Despite these advantages, PC/PMMA films have a low hardness makes them susceptible to scratches, reducing visibility. To solve this issue, we have developed an innovative coating by synthesizing an organic/inorganic hybrid acrylate polymer. This material significantly enhances the hardness of PC/PMMA films, surpassing a pencil hardness of 4H. Our coating also exhibits outstanding hydrophobic properties, and exceptional transparency. In conclusion, the high-hardness and transparent PC/PMMA films have the potential to replace glass in numerous applications and can be effectively employed in flexible and curved displays.
