Hot melt adhesives are known as more environmentally friendly adhesives to compared with other adhesives because their solvent-free nature. Herein, we replaced base polymer with biodegradable polymer to made more environmentally friendly hot-melt adhesives. In this study, the poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) were grafted with maleic anhydride (MA) by initiator to express hot-melt adhesive properties. The thermal properties, mechanical properties, viscoelastic properties, and adhesion properties of the maleated PBAT were determined by a function of the MA ratio of PBAT. The difference in the amount of MA grafted on the PBAT chain was confirmed by FT-IR. The melt index flow and molecular weight increased as the initiator ratio increased, and as a result, the crystallization temperature decreased in DSC. The lap-shear strength increased as the ratio of MA increased and then decreased above a certain content.
