With the growing interest in technologies that consume large amounts of energy, such as cloud services and autonomous cars, research on synaptic devices for the integration of neuromorphic systems is being actively pursued worldwide. However, many complex processes are required to achieve synaptic properties. In this study, we implemented synaptic properties using a novel method called functional group control of conjugated polymers. The fabricated devices exhibit features of the biological brain, such as the transition from short-term memory (STM) to long-term memory (LTM), paired-pulse facilitation (PPF), and high-pass filtering. In addition, the implemented synaptic devices exhibit good properties such as a long retention time of ~102, high dynamic ratio (Gmax/Gmin) and high linearity. This work presents a new way for the integration of next-generation neuromorphic systems by modulating conjugated polymers with functional group control to achieve excellent synaptic properties.
