Antibacterial edible food packaging films incorporated with encapsulated cinnamon essential oil nanoliposomes modified by chitosan

Increasing demand for environmentally friendly technologies, the market for biopolymer based package materials is growing. the development of new antimicrobial materials with long-term antimicrobial persistence and low toxicity is also increasing because of the importance of persnoal hygiene, health and safety in daily life. Therefore, in this study, essential oil was encapsulated through liposomes and encapsulated liposomes were coated with chitosan to increase physical, chemical stability. And the edible gelatin films were manufactured through solvent casting with liposomes coated chitosan. As a result, antibacterial tests using Esherichia.coli and S.epidermidis shows excellent antibacterial properties of more than 90%. The manufactured films can be useful in the field of polymer-based biodegradable packaging materials with regard to potential cross-contamination.
