Recent studies on bottlebrush polymers (BBPs) have generated great interest in bottlebrush block copolymers (BBCPs). In this project, our goal is to achieve perpendicularly oriented lamellar morphologies with high domain spacing. In order to achieve this, The poly(norbornene-g-poly(styrene))-b-poly(norbornene-g-poly(methyl acrylate)) [P(NB-g-PS)-b-P(NB-g-PMA)] bottlebrush block copolymers with ultrahigh molecular weights (Mn ∼ 400 kDa) and low dispersities (D∼ 1.1) are synthesized by sequential ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of norbornene PS macromonomers (NB-PS) and norbornene PMA macromonomers (NB-PMA). These bottlebrush block copolymers undergo thermal annealing process for nano-pattern organization and shear-rolling process for well-organized nano-patterns. AFM and SEM proved the existence of perpendicularly oriented lamellar nano-patterns.
