In this talk, I will introduce two topics of polymeric materials for energy storage applications. Firstly, our cathode hosting chemistry based on multifunctional polymeric metal phthalocyanine will be introduced. This multifunctional hosting material provides a redox mediating capability for sulfur conversion kinetics, a strong polar interaction with Li atoms, and a rapid Li-ion diffusion, which resolve the technical challenges of Li-S battery such as the lithium polysulfide shuttle, large volume expansion, and low electrical conductivity of sulfur cathodes. Secondly, I will address our recent progress on the quasi- and all-solid state polymeric electrolytes for Li/Na metal batteries. Our polymer electrolytes with the uniform distribution of active fillers could overcome the dilemma between ionic conductivity and electrochemical/mechanical stability.
