Perfluorinated ionomers have demonstrated great promise as proton exchange membranes (PEMs) in fuel cell technology requiring mechanical strength, chemical resistance, thermal resistance, and ion conductivity. In this study, we conducted the cross-linking between ionomers using SuFEx reaction to enhance their mechanical, chemical and thermal properties. The successful crosslinking was confirmed using FT-IR and rheometer. Thermal properties were assessed using TGA and DSC to show increased thermal decomposition temperature and glass transition temperature, while mechanical properties were evaluated using UTM to demonstrate increased tensile strength. On the other hand. the equivalent weight of the cross-linked ionomer remained comparable to that of non-crosslinked ionomer. Moreover, film degradation was attempted via Fenton's test, confirming improved chemical stability of the crosslinked ionomers. The ion conductivity remained almost the same before and after the cross-linking process.
