Polyolefin elastomoer (POE) is one of the material that designated as photovoltaic (PV) encapsulant materials to replace the EVA, which is classically used as a PV encapsulant material. Although POE has suitable properties for PV module encapsulant material such as high transmittance, persistent bonding, and good creep resistance with small deformation, its cohesin remains a small drawback. In this work, PV modules were encpaulated with POE blends which were blended with photochemically modified ethyelne propylene diene terpolymer (m-EPDM) with 3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxy silane (MTS), which can promote adhesion to glass. The photochemical thiol-ene reaction between EPDM and MTS was confirmed by 1H NMR analysis. The thermal, mechanical, and optical properties of POE blends were evaluated. The wheatherability of PV modules encpaulated by POE-based encapsulant was conducted by accelerated aging test. From the results, the POE blends with modified EPDM could be a reasonable way to prepare reliable and durable PV module encapsulant.
