Small Angle Neutron Scattering: An Invaluable Tool to Reveal Polymers Nanostructure

ACNS (Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering) at ANSTO successfully operates two small angle neutron scattering (SANS) instruments, Quokka and Bilby, and an ultra-small angle scattering instrument Kookaburra, covering Q (momentum of transfer) range from 1.8x10-5 to 1.8 Å-1. The design of the ToF Bilby instrument provides the capability to vary resolution, and also to collect scattering data of a wide angular range without changing the experimental set-up which perfectly suits to study in situ changes of the polymer systems. Neutron scattering is unique in the use of contrast-matching techniques. An example of their implementation for studying polymer systems will be presented. We have an extensive range of sample environments to collect data from the samples in a wide range of temperatures, at the shear, and so on. This presentation will focus on results obtained recently on the polymer systems and demonstrate the capabilities of the SANS highlighting ways of possible collaborations.
