Investigation and computational modeling of mechanical property of mechanically heterogeneous colloidal crystal film

Recently, the melt-shear assembly of core-shell nanoparticles has gained attention as a prominent method for creating soft colloidal crystal films. This approach is fast and straightforward, enabling the fabrication of large-area films. However, the films produced using this method mostly utilize shells with very low glass transition temperatures (Tg). As a result, the mechanical properties of these films are limited and exhibit only weak characteristics. To address this limitation, we select different monomers for shell synthesis based on their Tg, allowing to modulate the mechanical properties of the films. Based on films created using this method, we have enabled localized tensile amplification by constructing composite structures with heterogeneous arrangements. In order to validate these results theoretically, we conducted COMSOL modeling. Furthermore, we induced variations in color change along the tensile axis based on the heterogeneous properties.
