Theranostic platform-based multifunctional methods involving photothermal and photodynamic therapy (PTT/PDT) have been demonstrated to be incredibly effective for treating cancer. We offer a technique for making hybrid nanoparticles using gold nanocrystals and conjugated polymers via film dispersion. Conjugated polymers could be assembled into CPNs with an average diameter of about 60 nm and inner voids with a diameter of about 10 nm using a phospholipid with a hydrophobically modified polar head. Also, gold nanocrystals were simply inserted inside of CPNs to produce hybrid nanoparticles with enhanced light-harvesting properties. We showed that the photothermal effect became a significant energy dissipation mechanism when hybrid nanoparticles contained both donor- and acceptor-type conjugated polymers. These findings point to the potential for hybrid nanoparticles based on conjugated polymer and gold to be used in PTT and PDT processes, depending on the alignment of energy levels.
