Filterless Multicolor Image Sensors based on a Single Broadband Color-tunable Photonic Barristor in a Pixel

Photonic sensors technology has been attracting a great attention along with the growth of digital imaging market. However, existing lateral integration approach accompanies sacrifices of color accuracy, spectral responsivity and specific detectivity of devices. Furthermore, the simple stacking of devices in such configuration still requires the same degree of circuit complexity as lateral integration, due to the necessity of exclusive active matrices for each subcell. Here, a novel approach is employed to fundamentally and simultaneously enhance the integration density and performance of image sensors by adapting a single broadband color-tunable photonic barristor. Two consecutive short pulses were applied to the device to accurately demultiplex the color coordinate. These demultiplexing pulses were chosen to maximize noise margin of color radix, through machine-learning based on the pairing of optical-, electrical-, physical simulation.
