The concept of the dynamic covalent network have been emerged for self-healable, and recyclable materials. When this self-healing structure is introduced to surface-protective coatings, structural recovery as well as recovery of light signal distorted by the scratched surface can be expected. Herein, we synthesized a series of polythiourethane-based coatings, providing a dynamic network that enables self-healing properties. Several important properties of coatings, such as refractive index, Abbe number, glass-transition temperature, hardness, and self-healing performance, were controlled by adjusting the molar ratio between additives. Especially, near-infrared-absorbing photothermal dye was added to promote an eco-friendly self-healing process by increasing the surface temperature with simple sunlight irradiation. Developed coatings were applied to lens protector, then their photo-induced self-healing process and signal restoration were investigated under near-infrared irradiation.
