Eco-friendly Emulsion Polymerization : P(VDF-TrFE) synthesis without fluorosurfactants

Fluoropolymer P(VDF-TrFE), copolymerization of VDF and TrFE, has attracted wide attention due to its polarization and piezoelectricity, and it has been extensively applied in electromechanical devices. However, PVDF-TrFE is provided by only a few companies due to its difficult manufacturing method. In this study, an eco-friendly emulsion polymerization method was proposed to fabricate high-performance PVDF-TrFE without using fluorosurfactants. In addition, to get different composition PVDF-TrFE polymerization techniques, the content of TrFE in PVDF-TrFE was controlled. To investigate the diverse properties of the polymerized polymer, PVDF-TrFE was analysed by NMR, DSC, TGA and GPC.
