As an environmental pollution becomes severe due to mass-production of plastic, biomaterial-based wearable electronics including triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) have attracted great attentions. Since these wearable electronics often contain non-biodegradable and non-stretchable nature, material selection should be considered in terms of eco-friendly factors. In this work, we propose a hydroxyethyl cellulose and gelatin-based biodegradable and stretchable TENG for energy harvesting and sensing applications. Through adding plasticizer and crosslinker, stretchability of 150%, open-circuit voltage of 93 V and maximum power density of 57.78 μW/cm2 are achieved. As-fabricated TENG can be fully biodegraded in neutral, acid and base condition within 3 hours. For applications, powering light emitting diodes, measuring blood pressure waveforms of radial artery, and machine learning-assisted hand sign language recognition system are successfully demonstrated using biodegradable and stretchable TENG.
