Flame retardants are used in industries to enhance fire safety by slowing down or inhibiting material combustion in various settings like buildings, furniture, and electronics. Halogen-based flame retardants, commonly used, have excellent fire-suppression qualities, but their environmental impact and emission of harmful gases have led to usage restrictions in many countries. As an alternative, 'phosphorus-containing flame retardants' are being explored. These alternatives offer strong fire-retardant capabilities while being environmentally friendly and economically viable due to cost-effective materials. Our study introduces an eco-friendly phosphorus-containing flame retardant based on a vitrimer. This unique material features dynamic covalent bonds, making it recyclable and innovative in the plastics field. By utilizing natural components like phosphoric acid, tannic acid, and biodegradable PVA, we successfully created a biopolymer flame retardant containing dynamic phosphate ester bonds.
