Fabrication of Closed-loop-recycle-able Bio-based Vitrimer and Application to CFRP

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) recently receives attention from various industrial fields because of its high durability and mechanical property. Thermosets which have excellent thermal and mechanical performance is generally used as a matrix of the CFRP. But crosslinking bonds formed after curing are irreversible or permanent, it cannot be recycled. Therefore, most thermoset are disposed of through burying and incineration, which causes environmental pollution and waste of resources. To solve these disadvantages, research on eco-friendly plastic vitrimer that can be recycled is in great interest. Vitrimer can be recycled because they have dynamic chemical bonds. In this study, we developed a closed-loop-recyclablevitrimer containing dynamic covalent bonds. It has remarkable mechanical properties and maintain these properties even after recycling. Due to remarkable mechanical properties, it can be applied as a matrix of CFRP. Vitrimer-based CFRP is also closed-loop-recyclable.
