Development of urethane coating polyisocyanate hardener using bio-mass materials

In polyurethane coating industrials, polyisocyanate hardener has been used for curing acrylic polyol and polyester polyol, etc. Most of polyisocyanate hardener is manufactured by using TDI and HMDI, which is based on crude oil as raw material. These is difficult on global eco-friendly policy and regulation. In this study, we investigate polyisocyanate hardener using pentamethylene diisocyanate(PDI) consisted of bio-mass material. We synthesized PDI trimer type polyisocyanate hardener using PDI monomer, and compared urethane coating performance with commercial HMDI trimer type polyisocyanate hardener. Finally, we reviewed possibility of commercial coating application on bio-mass polyisocyanate hardener (PDI trimer).
