Vinyl Methyl Siloxane (VMQ) rubber shows superior oil resistance, yet its elevated cost constrains its broad industrial application. To circumvent this limitation, there's a pressing need to develop a cost-effective rubber composite that retains essential properties. In this context, EPDM (Ethylene-Propylene Diene Monomer), a petrochemical-derived synthetic rubber, is amalgamated with VMQ in varying proportions. A comprehensive assessment of their composite properties, encompassing hardness, tensile strength, rheological attributes, thermal stability, and oil resistance, is undertaken. SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) imaging elucidates potential compatibility issues, which might undermine the mechanical robustness of the blend. To bolster compatibility, Fumed silica particulates are incorporated as fillers. The study further explores the enhancement in composite properties attributable to these additives.
