The increasing usage of smart devices due to a growing global population and improved living standards poses a challenge for recycling. The complexity of adhesives connecting display components makes recycling difficult, often requiring the use of harmful solvents for removal. To tackle this problem, researchers have created thermo-switchable adhesives based on N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAM) with the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) property. These adhesives demonstrate strong adhesion at room temperature (15.41 N/25mm), but at 80℃, adhesion drops significantly by 97% (0.46 N/25mm). Notably, peeling the adhesive at different temperatures leaves no traces on stainless steel substrates, and the switchable adhesion property remains intact through ten heat and cool cycles. This development offers a promising eco-friendly solution for smart device recycling, providing an alternative to traditional adhesives.
