MXene (Ti3C2) nanomaterial is a two-dimensional material with a core/shell double layer structure and is synthesized from a three-dimensional MAX (Ti3AlC2) crystal by selective chemical etching of Al atomic layers. Surface functional groups formed on the surface of MXene in the chemical etching step are related to the control of physical properties of MXene materials, such as electrical conductivity, surface hydrophilicity, crystal defects, and oxidation stability. I would like to introduce various results of MXene synthesis, assembly, thin film, patterning, and electrode/energy/sensor applications, which were conducted through the Korea-US international joint development supervised by National Nanofab Center (FIRST Nano Co-op GRDC Center/K-NRF). In particular, the importance of thin film coating and patterning techniques for 2D MXene is discussed.
