Stretch Blow Molding-Structure Coupled Computer Simulation for Weight Reduction of PET Bottles for Carbonated Soft Drink

The regulations on the use of plastics are being strengthened to preserve the environment. Accordingly, in the PET bottle industry, research on recycling and weight reduction of PET bottles is being actively conducted. In this study, research to reduce the weight of PET bottle for carbonated soft drink was performed numerically. In order to reduce the weight of the existing 500ml PET bottle about 15%, a stretch blow molding simulation was performed using a 24g preform. The robustness of the weight-reduced PET bottle was examined by stretch blow molding-structure coupled simulation. As a result of the stretch blow molding simulation, elongation, stretching path, thickness and temperature of the existing preform and the weight-reduced preform were compared. The overall thickness decreased and the stretch ratio increased in the weight-reduced PET bottle. Through the structural simulation results, it was verified that the weight-reduced bottle showed similar strength to the existing bottle.
