Organic contaminants in wastewater have a serious adverse effect on the environment. Membrane is one of the best methods to lessening impurities in wastewater to desired levels. However, existing membranes that coating the surface with hydrophilic material only effectively resist the initial fouling, resulting in poor reusability. In this study, we fabricated a membrane using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polymer, which has antifouling properties against organic contaminants. Additionally, wrinkled hydrophilic particles were formed on the surface to improve water permeability. The particles growth on the surface is more effectively anchored to the membrane than dip coating method. Furthermore, the oil repellency was successfully demonstrated with a water contact angle of 0° and an oil contact angle of 152°. As a result, PVDF membranes with wrinkled patterned particles on the surface exhibit novel antifouling behavior and can be reused multiple times while maintaining oil repellency.
