A reinforced composite membrane (RCM) for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) is generally produced by impregnating Nafion ionomer on a porous PTFE substrate to reduce the cost of the membrane used in PEMFCs as well as to enhance the performance of the cell. Also, the RCM exhibits superior mechanical properties and excellent dimensional stability under high humidity status, compared to the pure Nafion membrane. In this study, we manufactured the RCM using gantry slot die coating equipment. The mechanical, thermal, and electrochemical properties of RCMs were investigated. Also, the performance of PEMFCs employing the membrane electrode assemblies fabricated by the RCMs were confirmed.
