As the demands for 5G-level communication increase, the issue of RC delay and signal loss becomes a significant problem. To construct a high-quality communication system, the development of polymeric materials with low dielectric constant and dielectric loss at a high signal frequency regime (> 10 GHz) is required. Although the introduction of nonpolar and bulky units in polymer have been suggested, those have a limitation such as weakening the high mechanical and thermal properties, which is essential for the polymeric substrate. Here, we designed a polymeric network prepared by cross-linking the oligomeric bismaleimide (BMI). Our resulting polymeric network has a low dielectric constant and dielectric loss with excellent thermal and mechanical properties. We will discuss the control over the free volume and cross-linking density in the network by varying the molar mass of BMI as a factor to achieve the desired dielectric performance.
