During the operation of flexible devices, the occurrence of scratches or cracks can negatively impact their performance. It is necessary to develop materials with self-healing capabilities to address these issues. Polymers possessing these properties may find various applications in wearable devices and electronic skin. Polyurethane is a versatile polymer, allowing the incorporation of different monomer structures to tailor desired properties. Waterborne polyurethane (WPU) is known for being an eco-friendly alternative as it uses water instead of organic solvents, eliminating the generation of volatile organic compounds. This study introduces self-healing waterborne polyurethanes (WPUs) by incorporating 2-hydroxyethyl disulfide with a reversible Diels-Alder group. With the self-healing WPU, we developed transparent conducting electrodes, which were then applied to flexible electrochromic devices (ECDs). Comprehensive WPU properties were characterized, and the ECD performances were evaluated.
