Thermal insulation and adhesive properties of polyurethane composite coating

Efforts to reduce energy are required to achieve carbon neutrality. To solve this problem, demand for high-efficiency insulators is increasing. To meet this demand, aerogel-based insulation materials with superior insulation are attracting attention. In this study, a polyurethane(PU) composite coating material with the aerogel filler was synthesized to address the weak mechanical properties of aerogel. The soft segments of the PU were adjusted to raise flexibility. The composites containing 30 wt% of pore-restored aerogel showed optimal insulation performance and the thermal conductivity of the synthetic insulator with flexible characteristic was reduced by 72% compared to that of the PU raw material. The adhesion performance was tested by coating the synthetic insulation on various substrates and showed excellent adhesion performance. The excellent thermal insulation and adhesive performances of the composite coating materials open up potential applications in a variety of industries.
