Flexible sensors are necessary components for utilization such as e-skin technology, human–machine interface, and soft robots. One of the important characteristics for strain and pressure sensors is that they could be able to sensitively recognize the external stress to accurately detect the various motions of humans or matter. Here, we report a polydimethylsiloxane PDMS/Ecoflex sponge-based sensor that can respond to and distinguish two different kinds of stimuli: pressure and strain. To improve the responsibility for the external force, the sensor utilizes a porous (PDMS)/Ecoflex sponge, which was sandwiched between PDMS/Ecoflex films, afterwards blade-coated asterisk-shaped sensing electrodes on the top and bottom sides. We determined responses to different types of stimuli can be distinguished by recording resistance and capacitance changes.
