There is an urgent need to develop alternative battery systems that can supersede the current lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Nevertheless, comprehending the intricate and convoluted reaction mechanisms of most non-Li-ion battery systems poses a challenge. This necessitates a thorough understanding of their functioning during charge and discharge cycles to facilitate further advancements. This presentation will primarily delve into the exploration of reaction mechanisms in post Li-ion batteries using operando imaging techniques. For instance, significant attention has been directed towards investigating Li anodes due to their impressive theoretical specific capacities. Yet, the intricate nature of the reaction mechanisms associated with them remains elusive. We have observed and analyzed the morphological changes within post Li-ion battery electrodes during active battery operation. This direct visualization of electrode material evolution offers novel insights crucial for unraveling the underlying reaction mechanisms.
