Humic substances are widespread organic compounds found widely in nature, and their presence has significant effects on both soils and water bodies. In this study, RC (Regenerated Cellulose) modified with cations was produced for efficient removal of humic acid (HA). RCs were prepared by dissolution and regeneration of cellulose using lithium bromide (LiBr), followed by crosslinking with polyethyleneimine (PEI) and di-epoxide to form squeezable RC/PEI hydrogels. The hydrogel is expected to effectively remove HA due to the abundant amino groups on its surface. Additionally, to impart hydrophobicity to the prepared RC/PEI hydrogel, alkylated graphene coating was performed. Finally, oil/water separation performance of the prepared alkylated graphene-coated RC/PEI hydrogel was also evaluated.
