초록

내용
Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) has received considerable attention as eco-friend additives for eco-polymer composites with low density and high mechanical performances. However, strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding among MCC reduces the compatibility with polymer deteriorating the mechanical performance of composites. In this presentation, we figured out the effects of functional groups on the composites by compounding thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and chemically modified microcrystalline methyl cellulose (m-MMC) with three different substitution levels of hydroxyl group to hydroxypropyl (HP) group: no-, low-, and high-level substitution (HP-0, HP-Low, and HP-High). The relatively bulky HP groups interrupted the intermolecular interactions in m-MMC and reduced the crystallinity and density while increasing the compatibility with TPU. Importantly, 0.5 wt% HP-Low/TPU composites showed highly enhanced toughness of about 28% (229.2 to 294.4 MJ/m3) compared to the neat TPU.
