Organic solar cells(OSCs) have emerged as next-generation energy sources because of their high performance over 19% through developing highly efficient organic photoactive materials. Thus, the printing techniques have been the greatest challenge for their commercial manufacture. Over decades, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) : polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOT:PSS) is the most commonly used hole transporting layer (HTL) for OSCs of its high electrical conductivity and optical transparency. However, the fixed work function of PEDOT:PSS caused the photoactive material selectivity problem. Therefore, a work function tunable layer is needed. Herein, we modified PEDOT:PSS by blending Nafion, perfluorinated sulfonic acid(PFSA), which adjusts the work function to match the highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO) of versatile donors for OSCs. Moreover, we successfully fabricated PEDOT:PSS:Nafion(PN) electrodes by H2SO4 treatment to obtain high electrical conductivity and HTL-free OSCs.
