Liquid metals (LMs) with high fluidity and high thermal conductivity (k) are recently receiving considerable attention in research on thermal management polymer composites. While the majority of previous studies investigated the effects of LM fillers in soft elastomeric matrices useful for soft robotics or flexible electronics, their effects on the properties of composites with rigid matrices such as epoxy-based polymers, which are useful for packaging or automobile, have not been discussed extensively. In this study, the effects of LM eutectic Ga-In (EGaIn) as co-fillers are investigated on the properties of rigid epoxy-based composites with a binary filler (α-Al2O3/EGaIn) system. With adequate LM loads, the composites exhibit superior mechanical properties than the all-solid-filler system, with reasonably high k values maintained, which are expected to be of high values in practical applications.
