Development of bone graft materials requires biocompatibility and osteo-inductivity for successful bone tissue engineering. Bioglass, which is biodegradable glass material that includes calcium and phosphate, has been reported as a candidate for bone graft materials due to its biocompatibility and mechanical properties. In addition to increase functionality of the Bioglass, we introduced poly-2-Methacryloyloxytehyl Phosphorylcholine (MPC) coating. MPC is well known bipolar material that providing antibacterial and antifouling function when they coated onto certain surface. In this study, chemical and mechanical properties of Bioglass and MPC was examined, and in vitro osteogenic differentiation experiment was performed. For further investigation, we are planning to apply MPC coated Bioglass in vivo experiments to confirm the efficacy of bone regeneration.
