The light-responsive and light-induced-dynamic-bond-exchange-reaction (DBER)-capable actuator of the monodomain liquid crystal elastomer (xMLCEazo) has been developed with diacrylate/dithiol-based main-chain mesogenic oligomers containing azobenzene and allyl sulfide linkages. The prepared xMLCEazo film showed large actuation (length contraction of 35%) through photothermal effect (originated from azobenzene linkages) and excellent self-healing and reprogramming properties (originated from allyl sulfide bonds) by ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. Furthermore, the xMLCEazo/xPLCEazo bilayer film bonded by the UV light-induced DBER showed local actuation of the eight-arm flower-like complex-shape actuator and rolling of the circular band by UV light irradiation, demonstrating remote local actuation control and fuel-free motion of the motile soft robot by light irradiation.
